Dedicated hosting (or managed hosting) is the hosting service where one physical server is provided to only one client, unlike shared hosting where multiple clients can host their web files.
The main advantage of managed hosting are: the client uses all the server's resources (cpu, ram memory, disk space, bandwidth, etc). Another good point is that the server's backups, updates, security are managed by the dedicated hosting provider. Support, is also a priority for managed hosting clients.
Dedicated hosting or shared hosting
Dedicated hosting is recommended for large web sites, with lots of traffic and who need more resources than a shared hosting server. This type of hosting is more expensive than shared hosting, the price for dedicated hosting is about few hundred dollars a month.
Shared hosting providers do not let their clients to install any program, but having your own managed server you can install any script you want on your server.
